World premiere of Volkswagen Nivus SUV-coupe on 28th May

Volkswagen Brazil has stated that the Nivus SUV-coupé’s world premiere will be held on May 28 at 11 am Brazil time (7.30pm IST). The Nivus is an SUV-coupé for someone who hasn’t kept track, scheduled to go on sale in Brazil in June, before being released to other Latin American markets. Although Volkswagen designs of the SUV-coupé bodystyle have been around before, the Nivus is the first of its kind to finally enter production and go on sale.

Volkswagen Nivus

Volkswagen partly unveiled the Nivus concept by revealing images of a camouflaged vehicle in mid-April. The pictures have confirmed the status of their SUV coupe. The Nivus could be one of the first models to wear the VW logo. Elements visible at the grille and front bumper additionally show that the Nivus shares various styling info with the Volkswagen Taigun concept that was on display at automobile Expo 2020.

The Volkswagen Nivus is powered through the equal MQB A0 platform as the global-spec Polo that is why they proportion the same 2.56m long wheelbase. Volkswagen’s T-cross SUV and Virtus sedan also are underpinned with the aid of the MQB A0 platform albeit a barely elongated, 2.65m-wheelbase version of it.
Another factor that the Volkswagen Nivus shares in that segment with the T-Cross, Virtus, and Polo on offer are the engine. These four models, at least as an option, offer VW’s 1.0-liter TSI turbo-petrol engine. This unit will be coupled standard in the SUV-coupé to a 6-speed automatic gearbox; no manual variant is planned.

Like we said earlier, there are some design features that the Volkswagen Nivus and Taigun share. The Taigun, however, won’t be an SUV-coupé and will be based on a longer platform variant. As this model is being designed exclusively for India, it has been named the MQB A0 IN. Volkswagen India has stated at Auto Expo 2020 that the Taigun will have a 2.65 m long wheelbase.
We also hope the Nivus and Taigun to share Volkswagen’s all-new “play” infotainment feature. It comprises of an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment interface full of connected vehicle tech and comprises with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It’s also predicted that certain body panels and interior parts would be similar between the two vehicles.
