2021 BMW M3 and M4 Revealed
There is the revelation of a new BMW M3 sedan and M4 coupé. The new straight-six gasoline engine and All-wheel drive option are the two versions that feature a radically redesigned front end.
The 2021 BMW M3 and M4 have their individual, lower-variant styling. The nose, dominated by a large vertical gate with seven double horizontal louvers, is the biggest point of conversation. It is similar to the new 4-series, but it includes two different elements instead of a single-frame design.
A heavily structured front stroke, a cap with two distinctive elements to emphasize the appearance of the grille, wide forward wings and sills, and air ducts in the front fenders, is a further feature.
The 2021 BMW M3 and M4 are also equipped with a carbon fiber reinforced plastic roof, a booted spoiler, and an upgraded back button with a multi-channel diffuser and two chrome-coated round tailpipes on either side.
The new 108 mm long, 26 mm wider, and 8 mm higher performance sedan compared to the old M3. The length of the M4 also increased by 108 mm and its width and height respectively increased by 18 mm and 1 mm. Both cars are equipped with the same 2,857 mm wheelbase, 45 mm longer than the previous one.
The cabin design of the 2021 BMW M3 and M4 remains the same as the standard but has unique, M-specific touches. New M Sport seats, an M Sport steering wheel, digital instruments as well as M-specific graphics functions and unique trim elements are in place.
Several new driver support systems also feature the latest generation of an M-specific heads-up display, a BMW Drive Recorder which uses the cameras of the different driver support systems for recording video footage from various external points, and super bright laser lighting systems.
An optional “M Drive Professional” system is also new to the 2021 BMW M3 and M4. This includes a new M Traction Control function, which allows the 10-stroke adjustment of the dynamic stability control and a drift analyzer that records and evaluates the statistics driving along with a timer function.
The newly developed 3,0-liter straight-six petrol engine (codename: S58) is used for the power of the sedan and coupé siblings. This mounting motor comes in two distinct tune states, with a standard 480hp and 550Nm and a competitor’s design of 510hp and 650Nm.
These figures represent increases from the older S55 engine of their predecessors of 50 hp and 66hp, standard, and competition respectively. The standard M3 and M4 are equipped with the standard 6-speed manual gearbox, with an optionally ZF-sourced 8-speed torque converter.
For BMW, the 0.2sec, and 0.1sec improvements have been made to 0-100kph times, for the regular car models at 4.2sec and the competition cars at 3.9sec, the latter being the same as for the old M3 CS and M4 CS.
The new S58 has a longer 90-mm stroke, increases cubic capacity by 14cc to 2993cc, and features reworked torque-chargers, a heavily revised fuel-injection, and a petrol philter which reduces emissions while sharing the same architecture as the older S55 unit.
Another first for both models is the all-wheel-drive, although it is not standard, but rather a competition option, as opposed to powerful M cars. The system offers three driving modes: 4WD Sport and 2WD Sport, which are switched off with a Dynamic Stability Control.
Both models have a double-wishbone façade, which is aluminum-intensive and a multi-link rear suspension with adaptive damping. The models also feature unparalleled suspension films with increasing front camber and damping rate of individual springs. The tracks in front and back were increased respectively by 34 mm and 38 mm.
The M division of BMW has also increased the total rigidity of the bodyshells 2021 BMW M3 and M4 by a certain amount. Substantial braces are also included on the front and the rear of the engine bay, where a new subframe is directly bound to the back of the body structure.
In addition to the sedan and coupe, the first new M3 Touring Estate and M4 Gran Coupé, and a new M4 Cabriolet will also be developed by BMW in an expanded line-up that will also include even more powerful track-focused CS derivatives.
With older generations in India sold, the 2021 BMW M3 and M4 can also be expected to start here. The BMW 4 Series Coupe standard is even expected to be launched in India by 2021.
The Facelift 5 Series and the updated 6 Series GT are also included on the 2021 cards. The new Gran Coupe 2 Series in India will be launched for 2020.
