Kia EV6 To Launch By June
The Kia EV6 is the Korean automaker’s first all-electric vehicle, and it has received positive feedback from customers in the markets where it is available. We previously reported that Kia will launch the EV6 in India this year, making it the company’s first electric vehicle in the country. According to our sources, the EV6 will be available in the United States by June 2022.
Because Kia plans to sell the EV6 as a CBU (completely built unit), no changes to the design, features, e-GMP platform or electric powertrain are expected. The EV6 is designed with Kia’s latest ‘Opposites United’ design philosophy in mind, giving it a sleek and sporty appearance.
The Kia EV6 will have a dual-screen layout on the inside, with one for the digital dials and the other for the infotainment system. The EV6 has a new two-spoke steering wheel, an augmented reality heads-up display, and a number of ADAS (advanced driver assistance systems) safety features.
While we don’t yet know what powertrain configurations Kia will offer in India, we do know what options are available globally. A 58kWh battery pack version is available in two configurations: rear-wheel drive (RWD) with a 170hp single-motor or all-wheel drive (AWD) with a 235hp dual-motor setup. A larger 77.4kWh battery pack is available with a 229hp single-motor in RWD, 325hp dual-motor in AWD, or the range-topping, performance-focused GT model, which has a dual-motor AWD layout that produces 585hp and 740Nm.
The Kia EV6 is just the beginning of Kia and Hyundai’s electric vehicle plans for India, which include six all-electric models by 2024. Apart from the EV6, Kia will debut the new e-Niro and a mass-market electric SUV, while Hyundai will debut the Ioniq 5, Kona Electric facelift, and its own mass-market electric SUV.
