Maserati MC20 Convertible Revealed Ahead Of unveil
Maserati is preparing the convertible version of its flagship MC20 sportscar for a global premiere in the coming months. Before on-road testing begins, the company’s first completed prototype was featured in an official picture session. Now that the hardtop car is available for preorder, the minimal camouflage and production-ready style hint it’s almost ready to be revealed.
The new livery for the MC20 convertible is inspired by clouds. It will be Maserati’s first convertible since the GranCabrio, and the first mid-engined roadster since the MC12 supercar’s manufacturing halted in 2005. Although there are no images of the back, the form of this prototype suggests it will have a folding hardtop rather than a fabric roof, akin to the Ferrari F8 Spider.
Aside from that, it’s believed to be identical to the coupé in terms of technology and design. This means it’ll be powered by a 621hp mid-mounted twin-turbo V6 with a 7,500rpm redline and a 0-100kph time of roughly 3.0sec; the convertible’s peak speed should be similar to the coupé’s.
A folding hardtop will very certainly increase the MC20’s kerb weight. The Ferrari F8 Spider, for example, is 70 kg heavier than its coupé sister.
Maserati has yet to specify a release date for the convertible, but because of the semiconductor crisis, the company recently pushed back the introduction of its new Grecale SUV to spring. The drop-top MC20 is expected to come close behind.
While the Maserati MC20 Coupe is set to arrive in India in 2022, the convertible is expected to follow suit in the near future.
