Mercedes Benz GLB Launched At A Price Of Rs 63.8 Lakh
The all-new, three-row GLB luxury SUV from Mercedes-Benz has been introduced in India, with prices starting at Rs 63.8 lakh for the petrol 200 variation and rising to Rs 69.8 lakh for the top-spec diesel 220d 4Matic variant (ex-showroom, India). After the GLS, the GLB is Mercedes’ second 7-seater SUV in India, imported from Mexico and completely assembled.
The Mercedes Benz GLB virtually resembles a downsized GLS, giving it a highly recognisable Mercedes SUV appearance. The upright nose, tall and flat bonnet and roofline, square headlamps, D-pillar, squared wheel arches, and even the segmented rear taillamps all have a strong GLS-like appearance. The dimensions are perfect as well. However, it develops a distinctive kink close to the C-pillar that elevates the shoulder line in the back.
There are two trim levels for the GLB: Progressive Line and AMG Line. These two levels also have different aesthetics.
A simulated silver skid plate, a dual-slat grille, external chrome trim, and 18-inch alloy wheels are included with the Progressive Line specification. The AMG Line option, on the other hand, has a sharper-looking bumper, a grille with an AMG theme and 19-inch twin five-spoke alloy wheels.
The Mercedes Benz GLB substantially imitates its younger sibling, the GLA, inside as well. The twin 10.25-inch touchscreens, the instrument panel, the twist-to-close turbine-like AC vents, the row of HVAC controls below, and even the touchpad on the centre console all have a recognisable arrangement. The sloping dashboard, the door pads, and even the seats, all resemble those of the GLA rather closely. There is also the luxurious steering wheel, which nicely combines leather, chrome, and knurled buttons.
The GLB’s 7-seat configuration is the interior’s main talking point. Although the third row’s capacity isn’t the largest, it definitely improves practicality. To provide the third-row occupants more room, the second-row seats may also move and have their reclines changed.
The latest MBUX infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, the ‘Hey Mercedes’ voice prompt, a wireless charger, built-in navigation, powered front seats with memory, 64-colour ambient lighting, a large panoramic sunroof, a powered tailgate, parking assist are just a few of the features the GLB has to offer.
The 220d 4Matic edition also includes a steering wheel with AMG specifications, sports seats, and door mats that resemble carbon fibre.
One petrol and one diesel engine options are available for the GLB. The petrol engine is a four-cylinder, 1.3-liter turbocharged unit that generates 163 horsepower and 250 pound-feet of torque. It is paired with a seven-speed automated transmission that solely drives the front wheels. The A-Class car uses this engine as well.
The 2.0-litre four-cylinder oil burner cranks out 190 horsepower and a maximum torque of 400 Nm. It has a front-wheel drive option as standard but may optionally be specified with the 4Matic AWD system. It is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
The Mercedes Benz GLB has no direct alternative in India as a budget 7-seater SUV. It will face competition, though, from vehicles like the Audi Q7 and Land Rover Discovery Sport given its pricing.
