The Karoq was launched by Skoda India at Rs 24.99 lakh ( ex-showroom, India). After the incredibly powerful and overshadowed Yeti, the Karoq is Skoda’s second attempt in the luxury midsize SUV market. Perhaps it is the Yeti’s symbolic face. As a fully developed unit (CBU) it’s carried to India and rivals with the newly introduced Volkswagen T-ROC and Jeep Compass.

All three models have the same list of features for you to please. They come with a touchscreen infotainment system, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, dual-zone climate control, cruise control, panoramic sunroof, keyless entry with push-button ignition, auto headlamps and wipers, and a rearview mirror that auto-dims the interior.

With six airbags, ABS with EBD, parking sensors, a rearview camera, electric parking brake, ISOFIX child mounts, and electronic stability control, all three models come here. The Karoq and the T-ROC also come with a system for monitoring the tire pressure. In the meantime, the Skoda goes on an extra hog and throws on three additional airbags and a pain sensor for passengers.

The Skoda Karoq and Volkswagen T-ROC come with a 1.5-liter TSI petrol engine that produces the power of 150PS and torque of 250Nm. This powertrain comes with active cylinder technology which shuts down two cylinders for improved fuel economy during low loads. Although it can be loaded with tech, the 1.5-liter TSI engine of VW is down 13PS compared to the unit of the Jeep. It develops however an identical 250Nm torque.

The Karoq has a claimed 16.95kmpl fuel economy rating, 2.85kmpl more than the Jeep Compass. Volkswagen ‘s official fuel economy estimates for the T-ROC have yet to be released. You can only get the Skoda Karoq and VW T-ROC with a 7-speed DSG. On the other hand, a 6-speed manual is available for the base variant of the Compass, while top-spec variants use a 7-speed DCT. The Compass also packs in a 2.0-liter diesel engine with 170PS, a choice lacking by its European rivals.

The Karoq appears to be a precious affair at Rs 24.99 lakh ( ex-showroom), particularly provided that the Volkswagen T-ROC and the top-spec Jeep Compass petrol are cheaper by about Rs 4 lakh. All versions also come fitted with a range of appliances to please buyers, and a petrol engine also provides an extra benefit on the Jeep. That said, with its innovative design elements, lavish creature comforts, and a long list of safety features, the Karoq could grab customers searching for a compact mid-size SUV with an extra luxury dose.
