2020 Mahindra Roxor leaked ahead of launch
The new Mahindra Roxor will soon be launched in the US in 2020. For some months now, we have been bringing you updates on Roxor and today we have a full first picture of the updated off-roader before it is launched.
The Roxor has been sold in the U.S. since May 2018 and has been plagued by multiple FCA lawsuits (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) because of the original Jeep-like design. Therefore, Mahindra adopted a completely new look to the off-roader in response to legal proceedings.
Mahindra has stuck to the backlog for 2020 Mahindra Roxor and almost all the Jeep-like looks have been removed. The model has now a much broader nose, allowing more space between the headlights, which are separated by a twin horizontal lattice grill and finished with black honeycomb inserts. With the wider cap, the wheels are largely integrated and the fender leavens the rest of the front end rather naked. The grill tapers to the forward bumper, showing the suspension and pneumatics exposed.
The headlamps are still round and should include LED elements. Other styling tweaks are not visible besides these changes.
Roxor is Mahindra’s off-road vehicle which falls in the North American market under the ‘side-by-side’ category. Built by Mahindra Automotive North America (MANA) in Auburn Hills, Michigan, the subsidiary of Mahindra in the United States. However, we expect the 2020 Mahindra Roxor to continue selling with the same 64hp, 2.5 liters diesel engine as before, technical details are not yet available. The unit is mechanically quite similar to the 2.5-liter Di engine available in many Indian Mahindra models, including the first-generation Thar in India. A 5-speed handbook and a 6-speed automatic are offered as two gearbox choices.
The outgoing Roxor has two-speed transmission cases, full-speed floating axles with 5,38:1 gear upgraded, a suspension of the leaf-spring around, front disc breaks, and the back drum brakes. This setup is also expected to continue with the updated model.
Mahindra announces pricing for the second-generation Thar on October 2, 2020, while there are no plans to bring Roxor to India. The BS6 TUV300 is also expected to be on the show shortly. The second-gene XUV500 and a few other electric models will also be shown with the light of day by 2021.
