2020 Honda City to launch on July 15
The fifth-generation Honda City sedan will be launched in our market on July 15, 2020, following a minor delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Honda began manufacturing the new model late last month and has already begun accepting mid-size sedan bookings.
The 2020 Honda City, for example, is focused on a new platform claiming to be lighter and more rigid than the outgoing models. Honda fitted the fifth-gen City with an all-new 1.5-liter twin-cam diesel engine that produces a torque of 121hp and 145Nm. The diesel version will be the older City’s 1.5-liter model updated to meet BS6 emission standards; it makes torque of 100hp and 200Nm.
Gearbox options will consist of a 6-speed manual and an automatic CVT (with paddle shifters) for the petrol engine, while a 6-speed manual will be provided to the diesel only.
Customers will be able to book the 2020 Honda City either by physical or online visits to Honda Car India dealerships. Honda has set the online booking amount at Rs 5,000 for the City, while reservations will be approved for Rs 21,000 at the dealership. As of 23 June 2020, the carmaker has already started shipping the new City to its dealerships throughout India.
The fifth-gen model will have to take on other midsize sedans besides its predecessor, including the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Hyundai Verna, Skoda Rapid, Volkswagen Vento, and Toyota Yaris. We foresee pricing the top-spec models close to the Rs 15 lakh mark (estimated, ex-showroom).
