2022 Audi A8 Facelift Revealed
For 2022, the Audi A8 has been given a minor facelift, with new aesthetic features, better lighting technology, and a top trim designed specifically for the Chinese market.
In comparison to the outgoing model, which had a slatted grille, the luxury sedan’s front end has been revised with a broader grille that now features a bolder mesh pattern. The air intakes on the bumper’s edges have been slanted slightly to give them a more upright appearance.
For the first time on an A8, a new S Line package will be available in global markets, incorporating specific aesthetic characteristics such as S8-inspired blades in the side intakes. The pre-facelift model’s optional chrome and black exterior packages have been carried over, while the colour palette has been enhanced with four new metallic and five new matte colours.
Audi’s Digital Matrix LED headlights, which use about 1.3 million micro-mirrors to split the light into individual pixels, similar to a digital projector, are standard on all new A8 models. This permits the car to emit a “carpet of light” that is only visible in the driver’s lane.
Digital OLED brake lights are now standard, with proximity sensors that activate them when another car approaches a stationary A8 within two metres.
The cabin looks familiar on the inside, while Audi claims the infotainment system has been updated with its current MIB 3 software. The rear seats now include two 10.1-inch infotainment screens, which are operated via a touchscreen remote in the central armrest. A cooler with a bar compartment, a fold-out centre console table, and a perfume function are among the optional additions.
The 2022 Audi A8 splits 40 driving assistance technologies into numerous packages; for example, the “Park” package includes Audi’s remote park assist, which allows the car to automatically manoeuvre into and out of parallel or bay parking spaces without the driver having to get out of the vehicle.
The “City” package contains Audi’s pre-sense 360-degree safety system, which raises the suspension in the event of a side impact to protect the occupants, while the “Tour” package includes adaptive cruise aid, which adjusts the vehicle’s speed automatically.
Audi has produced the new A8 L Horch trim level particularly for the Chinese market, as China accounts for 60% of all A8s sold worldwide. The model is intended to compete with other super-luxury sedans, such as the Mercedes-Maybach S-class, which will be introduced in India next year. The Horch is 130mm longer than even the A8 L’s long-wheelbase model, at 5.45m.
The 2022 Audi A8 for China has new wheels and chrome exterior style, as well as two-tone paint, which is a first for the A8. Diamond quilting, deep-pile rear floor mats, and foot-massaging relaxation seats are standard on the interior. The Horch has the same 3.0-litre V6 engine as the normal A8.
The six-cylinder 3.0 TDI diesel and 3.0 TFSI petrol engines remain unaltered, delivering 286hp and 340hp, respectively. The TFSIe plug-in hybrid option produces 461 horsepower, which is slightly more than the 4.0 TFSI petrol, which is a detuned version of the V8 seen in the S8. All engines are mated to Audi’s ‘Quattro’ all-wheel-drive system and an eight-speed ‘Tiptronic’ automatic transmission.
Predictive adaptive suspension, a sport differential, and dynamic all-wheel steering are all standard on the 571hp V8-powered S8 performance edition. It offers a 3.8-second 0-100kph time.
Audi has revealed that the 2022 Audi A8 will not have a full-electric version, with the production version of the Grandsphere concept planned to replace the flagship sedan as the business converts to being an electric-only brand by 2033.
In early 2020, Audi debuted the current version of the A8 L in India. The model is only available with a 55 TFSI Quattro arrangement that employs the 340hp V6 petrol engine and is priced at Rs 1.58 crore, due to the company’s aversion to diesel in our market (ex-showroom, India).
The 2022 Audi A8 L is expected to arrive sometime next year, as the premium sedan is a full import for our market.
