2022 BMW X1 And All-Electric iX1 SUVs Unveiled

The third-generation BMW X1 and its full-electric counterpart, the iX1, have been announced. It has a completely redesigned look and interior, as well as a variety of powertrain options.

For Daytime Running Lamps, the new-generation X1 has smaller LED headlights with an inverted L shape. The huge, chrome-heavy kidney grille is flanked by the headlamps.

The side profile, on the other hand, boasts chunkier wheel arches and flush door handles similar to those found on the new 7 Series. The blue highlights on the front and rear bumpers, as well as the door sills, set the iX1 apart from its ICE counterpart.
The 2022 BMW X1 is slightly larger than its predecessor in terms of dimensions, and the cabin has more space thanks to a 22mm longer wheelbase and a 31mm wider track.

The inside of the new-generation X1 is identical to that of the 2 Series Active Tourer. The new SUV comes with BMW’s eighth-generation iDrive operating system, which is controlled via a 10.7-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster.

The redesigned seats, according to BMW, provide improved long-distance comfort. Acoustics and a slew of other cabin amenities contribute to the refinement.

The new-generation X1 is built on BMW’s FAAR architecture, which also underlies the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and the future Mini Countryman crossover.

Buyers in international markets will have a choice of three and four-cylinder petrol engines, as well as two four-cylinder diesel engines. Additional petrol, diesel, and two plug-in hybrids will be released soon, with an electric-only range of up to 88 kilometres.
BMW claims a 0-100 speed of 5.7 seconds for the iX1 xDrive30 EV, which is powered by two electric motors that provide a combined 313hp and 493Nm. Meanwhile, a 64.7kWh battery under the floor is said to provide a range of 413 to 437 kilometres. It can be charged at up to 130kW for a top-up time of 29 minutes between 10 and 80 per cent.

The 2022 BMW X1 will be available in international markets starting in October, followed by the iX1.

2022 BMW X1

In India, BMW is expected to launch the X1 and iX1 sometime next year. The X1 will compete in India against the Mercedes-Benz GLA, Volvo XC40, and the soon-to-be-released Audi Q3. The iX1 will compete against the soon-to-be-released Kia EV6, as well as the future Volvo XC40 Recharge and Hyundai Ioniq 5.
