MG Air EV To Launch In 2023
The compact, two-door Air EV will go on sale in India at the beginning of next year, according to MG Motor. The likelihood of a preview at the next Auto Expo 2023 is consequently very strong. This supports the prior story we published in June of this year, in which we first learned about MG’s planned city EV. In India, the MG Air EV will be promoted as the company’s entry-level model.
Based on the Wuling Air EV, which is already available in Indonesia, the MG Air EV will undergo significant modifications for India, most notably to the air conditioning and battery heat management system. The two-door little electric vehicle features a quirky, boxy shape with futuristic accents. It is even more compact than the Maruti Suzuki Alto, measuring roughly 2.9 meters in length and having a 2,010mm wheelbase.
The Air EV will be abundantly loaded with amenities despite its small size. Expect an infotainment and instrument arrangement with two 10.25-inch screens. Higher versions would even include soft-touch interior components and simulated aluminum accents. With this entry-level EV, MG India hopes to draw in wealthy urban dwellers who will use it more as an urban runabout than a full-fledged family car.
With a battery pack size of 20 to 25 kWh, the Air EV should have a real-world driving range of 150 kilometers. A front-wheel-drive system with a single motor may produce roughly 40 horsepower.
Tata AutoComp, which has a joint venture with Chinese battery supplier Gotion for the design, manufacturing, supply, and servicing of battery packs in India, will supply the battery pack for the Air EV domestically. Additionally, it will use LFP cells, which are comparable to those found on the well-known Nexon EV offered here.
The MG Air EV would cost starting at about Rs 10 lakh. Launching a two-door EV at this pricing point is a risky move, but those seeking a very small and effective city runabout might just be drawn to this radical-looking EV.
