2020 Force Gurkha to launch in October
Force Motors is gearing up later this year to launch its second-gen Gurkha SUV to the Indian market. The model was first unveiled in February during Auto Expo 2020.
Although the new Gurkha was scheduled to reach the Indian showrooms this April, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has endangered the launch plans of several carmakers, including Power.
Sources tell us that although the plant has begun operations in a phased manner, series production for the new Gurkha is yet to commence and market launch for the new SUV is now expected to take place sometime in late October or early November; just around Diwali 2020.
The 2020 Force Gurkha was unveiled earlier this year and while the SUV looks very similar to the outgoing model, a significant revamp has been made to it. A closer look shows that the styling of the SUVs is all-new, and the cabin has been reworked entirely.
It is going inside a new dual-tone dashboard, a touchscreen interface, and control windows. Besides, it features an adjustable tilt and telescopic steering wheel, dual front airbags, and ABS.
The new SUV continues to ride on a ladder frame system, which has now been modified to provide better crash safety and meets the current government requirements. As far as engines go, the new Gurkha will receive a heavily revised BS6 version of the 2.6-liter Mercedes-Benz OM616 diesel engine providing a peak torque of 90hp and 260Nm. Gearbox duties are to be done by a manual 5-speed unit.
The 2020 Force Gurkha will face the all-new Mahindra Thar’s stiff competition at the launch, which is also expected to reach the showrooms at the same time. Unlike Mahindra, Force Motors is also betting on the Gurkha’s long list of customization options to drive the sales of its off-roader second-gen.
