2021 Yamaha Fascino 125 Unveiled

The 2021 Yamaha Fascino 125 with hybrid technology has been released at Yamaha India. During the virtual start of the new Yamaha FZ-X, the scooter was displayed.

The key issue is the Smart Motor Generator (SMG) which now has an extra ‘hybrid system’ feature, Yamaha explains. It operates fundamentally as an electric motor, supplying power while it is off or ascending up a steep steepness. When the power assist is in use, the rider receives a notification on the instrument cluster. After three seconds of startup or a certain rpm is crossed, the device turns off power assistance. It also stops when the rider close the throttle.

Although Yamaha calls it a hybrid scooter, in today’s hybrid automobiles there is nothing like that. The technology is more of a moderate hybrid and offers only 3 seconds of additional power. Actually, this hybrid technology does not lead to any power increases. What should also be mentioned is that despite the installation of the system, there has been no rise in the weight of the 99 kg kerb.

The 125 cc, air-cooled single-cylinder engine is powered by the Yamaha Fascino 125. At 6,500 rpm, the engine is now 8.2hp and at 5,500rpm, 10.3Nm. While the maximum power is the same as previously, the maximum torque increased by 0.6Nm.

The SMG has additional advantages including quiet starting and auto-stop starting technology. The start-stop engine technology helps to save gasoline. In our testing, the previous Fascino 125, which is one of the most fuel-efficient BS6 125cc scooters we tested, returned 57.08kpl in the town and 64.2kpl on the highway. We are waiting to test the new scooter and discover what the hybrid technology is affecting the scooter’s performance and rideability.

Yamaha has addressed one of Fascino’s greatest criticisms, and that’s the narrow list of features. The 2021 Yamaha Fascino 125 disk brake has an LED headlamp that runs through the center with an LED DRL bar. The cluster in V shape is the same, except instead of a halogen bulb it contains an LED light.

There’s also a new full digital Bluetooth dash with a configuration similar to that on the cluster of the Ray ZR. The rider can answer calls, find the scooter, record riding and parking history using the Yamaha Motorcycle Connect X app. However, the Fascino does not include turn-by-turn navigation, unlike TVS Ntorq 125 and Suzuki Access 125.
Yamaha did not modify the chassis or car bodywork, save for stickers to be added and colors to be introduced. New Vivid Red, Matt Black, and Cool Blue Metallic colors are added to the disk brake version. In addition to the above, the drum version also receives a yellow cocktail color.
Yamaha Fascino 125 will soon become available for sale.

At the FZ-X launch ceremony, Yamaha also presented the revised Ray ZR 125. The Ray ZR 125 is mechanically similar to the 2021 Yamaha Fascino 125 , which is equipped with the same chassis and motor.

New colors and the LED headlight and taillight are included in Ray ZR updates. Motofumi Shitara, Chairman of Yamaha India revealed that the firm aims to soon extend the Ray ZR 125 to include innovative hybrid Fascino technology.
