Bajaj Chetak Will Now Come With More Power

Bajaj introduced the Chetak in January 2020. With this, Bajaj revived the Chetak brand, which gave people a nostalgic feeling, but this time in the form of an EV. Bajaj is now planning to give the Chetak a boost of power. This is a welcome move given the increased competition in the electric scooter segment.

Bajaj Chetak

Bajaj is currently developing a new version of the Chetak. According to a leaked document, the new Chetak will have a new and powerful motor capable of producing 4.2kW of peak output and 4.0kW of maximum continuous output. The document also stated that a new motor can generate 4 kWh of power for 30 minutes at 60Kmph. Bajaj will seek to localize in order to reduce its reliance on imported components. Localization will also aid in lowering the price of the new Bajaj Chetak. To up their EV game, Bajaj has also invested $300 million in the construction of a new EV plant in Pune, with the goal of producing 5 lakh EVs per year.

In Pune, the base Urbane variant of the Bajaj Chetak electric scooter costs Rs 1,42,988. The range-topping Premium trim, on the other hand, will set you back Rs 1,44,987 and thus costs around Rs 2,000 more. The listed prices are ex-showroom. An electric motor generates 3.8kW/4.08kW (continuous/peak power) and 16Nm of torque in the electric Chetak. The IP-67 rated powertrain is powered by a 3kWh Li-ion battery that is also rated for environmental protection as the motor.

The system allows the Bajaj Chetak Electric to reach a top speed of 60 km/h, and there are two riding modes available: Eco and Sport. The specifications of the Bajaj Chetak Electric differ from those of a petrol-powered scooter in terms of power and other factors. In terms of charging, the battery is a fixed unit that cannot be removed and charged separately. It does not support fast charging, but it can be plugged in for 25 percent power and recharged in 1 hour using a free home charger and onboard cable. The unit takes about 5 hours to fully charge. Bajaj provides a 3-year standard warranty on the battery and the scooter.
