Ineos Grenadier Interior Revealed
The Ineos Grenadier, Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s rugged new body-on-frame 4×4 inspired by the original Land Rover Defender, has finally received official interior photos. They display an extremely innovative design that is clearly built for toughness and timelessness while remaining directed by the highest levels of practical logic at all times.
Ineos Grenadier has a true hose-it-out cabin made of ultra-durable, stain-resistant materials, with drain holes in the floor to emphasize the ship’s ability to withstand the worst conditions. Toby Ecuyer, the designer, says one of his main goals has been to illustrate that high endurance does not have to mean sacrificing comfort and finesse.
A flat, high-quality, centrally-mounted switch and dial panel dominates the Grenadier’s fascia, with its design clearly influenced by aviation and ship layouts. On the roof, there is an impressive-looking matching panel.
The switches are a mix of push and toggle designs, both of which are exceptionally durable and suitably spaced to allow gloved usage. They are more clearly labeled than in other automobiles, and the roof panel features configurable auxiliary switches that are pre-wired and ready to use.
A 12.3-inch center touchscreen controls infotainment functions on the Grenadier (backed up by an i-Drive-style rotary button mounted between the seats). Grenadier has about two-thirds fewer microprocessors than rival 4x4s, thanks to the Ineos team’s efforts to keep the automobile as simple as possible.
Navigation, is controlled by Apple or Android smartphone functions, ensuring that software is constantly up to date, albeit there is a built-in pathfinder function that allows drivers on expeditions to return to their starting point.
The BMW B57/B58 family of engines has been chosen by Ineos, therefore each Grenadier will feature a modular 3.0-liter petrol or diesel straight-six engine driving through a ZF-supplied 8-speed automated gearbox (and a separate low-range transfer case). In BMW applications, these engines produce anything from 265hp to nearly 405hp, depending on the spec.
