The India-spec Jimny 5-door, in contrast to other small SUVs, is primarily an off-road vehicle with tough underpinnings.

The Jimny 5-door isn’t really all that different from the shorter 3-door model marketed abroad; the lengthened SUV has many similarities with it. The India-specific Jimny 5-door resembles the international 3-door model primarily in appearance, with the exception of a longer wheelbase, two extra doors, and a revised rear section. The India-spec variant retains all of the distinguishing features of the original Jimny, including the upright pillars, smooth surfaces, round headlamps, slatted grille, large off-road tyres, and wide wheel arches.

The wheelbase of the Jimny 5-door, which has a length of 3,985mm and a width of 2,590mm, is 340mm longer than that of the 3-door version. It measures 1,645 mm in width and 1,720 mm in height. The Jimny’s boxy body form is nicely complemented by the newly designed rear doors, although a large-ish quarter glass results in a significantly less “useful” back glass area. The roof, on the other hand, has a striking black finish.

The newly added extension behind the back entrance has a sizable, vertical glass space flanked by substantial pillars.

The Jimny 5-door retains the same side opening door with exposed hinges, a door-mounted spare tyre with a black covering, and bumper-mounted taillamps as the Jimny 3-door with no significant aesthetic modifications.

The Jimny 5-door’s interior matches that of the 3-door version exactly. The dashboard is all-black and includes a 9.0-inch touchscreen that is positioned high and takes centre stage. It looks fairly tough. Other Maruti models, including the Swift, share components with the Swift, such as the steering wheel and the round dials for the HVAC settings. In order to further emphasise its tough appearance, it also gets a grab hold positioned on the dashboard on the passenger side.

A rectangular instrument binnacle with deep-set analogue, circular speedo and tachometer dials and a separate MID in the middle is what makes it special.Other notable features include an abundance of clever storage compartments, a row of toggle-like switches on the centre console, and a 4×4 gear lever. The India-specific The Jimny is a five-seater vehicle with bench seating in the second row.

The Jimny 5-door has the Maruti SmartPlay Pro+ infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and an Arkamys audio system as standard features. Six airbags, ESP with hill hold aid, hill descent control, a rearview camera, and ABS with EBD are among the safety features.

The Jimny 5-door continues to use the older K15B engine, which is paired with either a 4-speed torque converter automatic or a 5-speed manual transmission, unlike the rest of Maruti’s Indian lineup, which has switched to the newer K15C engine. This engine, which is also used in the 3-door Jimny, has a peak torque of 134Nm and 105 horsepower. It also receives mild hybrid technology from Maruti.

The Jimny 5-door has Suzuki’s AllGrip Pro 4WD system with a manual transfer case, low range transmission, and “2WD-high,” “4WD-high,” and “4WD-low” drive modes. It is supported by a tough ladder-frame chassis, features a 3-link rigid axle suspension, and an electronic traction control system that stops slipping wheels automatically so that force can be redistributed to other wheels. The Jimny 5-door has a ground clearance of 210mm and an approach angle of 36 degrees, a breakover angle of 24 degrees, a departure angle of 50 degrees.

In May 2023, Maruti will reveal the Jimny 5-door price in India. It will compete with other tough 5-door off-roaders like the upcoming 5-door Mahindra Thar and 5-door Force Gurkha at a price of roughly Rs 12 lakh (ex-showroom).
