Toyota Hilux Details Unveiled

Toyota is set to launch the much-anticipated Hilux pickup truck in India later this month. According to our sources, the Hilux price announcement could take place on January 20 rather than January 23, as previously reported. Dealer sources have revealed engine specifications, paint colour options, and a slew of other details about the upcoming Toyota Hilux for India.

Toyota Hilux

We can confirm that the Hilux will be available in India in a single four-door pickup body style, and while bookings are already underway, deliveries will not begin until March 2022. The Toyota Hilux will be assembled in India via CKD kits at Toyota’s plant in Karnataka, with some parts shared with the Fortuner.

Toyota will bring the Hilux to our market with a 2.8-litre diesel engine. This unit is expected to be identical to the one used in the Fortuner, which means power output will most likely be 204hp and torque output will be 420Nm (500Nm in the automatic). Similar to the Fortuner, transmission options will include a six-speed manual and an automatic. The Hilux will be available in five paint colours, beginning with two options for white (pearl and super), emerald red, and metallic versions of grey and silver.

Toyota will also provide a standard warranty of three years and one lakh kilometres on the Hilux, as is the case with almost every other Toyota product sold in India. Customers will also have the option of purchasing extended warranty plans that can last up to 5 years/2.2 lakh kilometres.

Toyota Hilux

Dealers have confirmed that the Hilux will have LED headlamps, unique chrome bits for India, 18-inch alloy wheels similar to the Fortuner, a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, leather upholstery, and multiple airbags.

In terms of off-road technology, the Hilux will include, among other things, a four-wheel-drive system with electronic differential locks.

In terms of competition, the Hilux will face the Isuzu V-Cross, which is currently the only lifestyle pick-up on the market in the country. While the price will not be announced for a few days, expect the Hilux to be around Rs 30 lakh (ex-showroom).

Aside from the Hilux, Toyota is also preparing to launch the Camry facelift in India, with a recent teaser indicating that it will be available soon.
