2021 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado Gets A More Efficient Turbo Diesel Engine
For the Australian market, Toyota has already unveiled a revised version of the Land Cruiser Prado and has now also announced the 2021 Land Cruiser SUV for the European markets. A lot of new features were added as opposed to the current model along with a more powerful engine. The SUV will be available with Kakadu trims in GX, GXL, VX, and top-spec. Interestingly, Toyota had launched its face-lifted SUV Fortuner a few months earlier, with the same, more powerful diesel engine. And next year the company plans to launch the same engine at Hilux.
The 2021 Toyota Land Cruiser is also getting some major updates, such as the latest multimedia system and new protection features along with the Japanese giant’s “Toyota Safety Sense Package” which are active safety technologies. If that’s not enough, then the SUV gets special Black styling signs as well.
As stated earlier, the latest 2.8-liter, 16-valve, 4-cylinder DOHC, common rail diesel engine, which has been tuned for higher power output, will power this 2021 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado. That translates into 200 bhp of torque and 500 Nm of power. That in case you wonder is 23 bhp higher than the previous versions and 50 Nm higher. The updated Fortuner gets the same 4-cylinder 2.8-liter 1GD-FTV turbocharged diesel engine which produces the same power and torque outputs on the sheet. As per Toyota, the face-lifted Toyota Hilux pickup truck will also receive the same power-train.
The SUV comes with an automatic 6-speed gearbox, helping it reach 0-100 kmph in just 9.9 seconds, along with a top speed of 175 kmph. That’s 3.0 seconds faster than the preceding-gen iteration.
The 2021 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado is equipped with a nine-inch infotainment touchscreen system that claims to give faster software and screen response. The new device is now compatible with both Apple Car-play, and Android Auto.
Also, the infotainment unit will provide a one-box search facility, 3 years of map care-related facilities, and map updates over the air. Along with the host of linked utilities that would include live internet traffic updates and an online search engine from Google. Other features include paddle shifters, adaptive variable suspension, crawler control, rear-seat entertainment system, sunroof, rear air suspension, multi-terrain modes, powered front seats with ventilation and heating function, keyless entry and engine start, etc.
The 2021 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado also comes with up to three tonnes of towing power and Toyota’s Safety Sense kit, which is made standard across all models. Among other safety features, it includes a pre-collision system, lane departure warning, and assistance, road sign assist, active cruise control, seven airbags, VSC, TC, ABS, EBD, BA, Trailer Sway Control, and reverse parking camera.
