2023 Kia Sonet Introduced At A Prices Of Rs 7.79 Lakh

The 2023 Kia Sonet has been introduced by Kia India with a modernised drivetrain. The SUV now boasts engines that adhere to the latest RDE emission requirements as well as BS6 Phase 2 compliance. The revamped Sonet also has a significant price increase of up to Rs. 50,000 and a number of new features. The 2023 Kia Sonet is priced between 7.79 lakh and 14.89 lakh rupees (Both prices ex-showroom, Navi Mumbai).

In other developments, Kia quietly unveiled revised powertrains for the other two best-selling vehicles in its Indian portfolio. The automaker has debuted the new Seltos and Carens, with the Seltos beginning at Rs. 10.89 lakh and Rs. 10.45 lakh, respectively. Both are former showroom actors. Also, these models receive RDE and E-20 fuel-compliant engines, just as the Sonet.

The Sonet’s petrol engine lineup may now operate on E20 fuel, a blend of 20% ethanol and 80% gasoline, thanks to RDE compliance. Mechanically, the car still relies on a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that produces 118 horsepower and a 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine that produces 82 horsepower. They will still be able to choose from the same transmissions—a 7-speed DCT, an iMT, and a 5-speed manual—that were previously offered for the petrol models. Regarding pricing, there has been a rise in the petrol price range of between Rs 10,000 and Rs 25,000.

Kia has upgraded their diesel portfolio, standardising the power output to 114 bhp across both available models, in order to meet RDE requirements. Moreover, the company has replaced the 5-speed manual transmission with an iMT (intelligent manual gearbox). All variants of the Kia Sonet are now Rs 50,000 more expensive than they were before.

In terms of features, the automaker has made an idle start/stop technology standard on all of its models for the new Sonet. The feature equipment list still includes a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, a 4.2-inch coloured metre cluster, a Bose premium sound system with LED mood lighting, and ventilated front seats. With the turbo DCT variants, it also features paddle shifters.

The new Sonet continues to compete in India’s market against the Renault Kiger, Tata Nexon, Nissan Magnite, Mahindra XUV300, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, and other vehicles.

Kia has introduced the EV9 SUV, the brand’s flagship vehicle. According to reports, the electric SUV will launch in foreign markets later this year. There is currently no official confirmation, however, the EV9 will be released in India by 2024. The new three-row EV9 will be located above the Kia EV6 electric vehicle. The last design update for the EV9 predicts that the next SUV will feature a boxy body and sharp edges.
