Kia Carens Bookings Open Before Month

Kia has officially opened bookings for the Carens in India, with a deposit of Rs 25,000. Customers can reserve the MPV at Kia dealerships or on the company’s website before it goes on sale in February. The Carens will be Kia’s fourth model in India, and it will be produced for both domestic and export markets.

In India, the Carens will be offered in five trim levels: Premium, Prestige, Prestige Plus, Luxury, and Luxury Plus. You can learn more about the features that each variant provides by clicking here. Depending on the variant, the Carens will be available in 6- and 7-seater configurations.

Notably, the Carens have the longest wheelbase in its class at 2,780mm. It’s also 40mm longer than the Ertiga and XL6 from Maruti Suzuki, and 20mm longer than the Hyundai Alcazar. In fact, the Carens have a 30mm longer wheelbase than the Toyota Innova Crysta. As a result, the Carens should provide adequate legroom on both the second and third rows.

The Kia Carens are available with two petrol engines and one diesel engine. The first is a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine with 115hp and 144Nm that will only be available with a 6-speed manual transmission. Then there’s the 140hp, 242Nm, 1.4-liter turbocharged petrol engine, which comes with either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DCT transmission.

The diesel engine is a 115hp, 250Nm, 1.5-litre unit with a 6-speed manual or 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. These engine-gearbox combinations are the same as those available on Seltos.

Kia plans to aggressively position the Carens in the market, with prices ranging from Rs 12 lakh for entry-level variants to Rs 20 lakh for the top-spec diesel-AT variant. Thus, it will fill the gap between the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and the Toyota Innova Crysta, competing with top-spec XL6 variants as well as the Mahindra Marazzo, Hyundai Alcazar, and other 6-, 7-seater SUVs in this price range such as the Tata Safari and Mahindra XUV700.
