The MG Comet EV was introduced by MG starting at Rs 7.98 lakh (introductory, ex-showroom, India). Although this is the three-door EV’s beginning price, further versions’ costs will be revealed soon. Test drives of the Comet EV will start on April 27; reservations will open on May 15; and deliveries will start later that month.

The Comet EV, which is based on the Wuling Air EV, sports an intriguing full-width LED light bar that MG refers to as the Extended Horizon linking lights along with a boxy design language. A piano black and chrome strip links the two wing mirrors side by side. The Comet EV’s charging connector is also located at the front, underneath the light bar, and it has an illuminated MG logo on its flap.

The Comet EV has alloy wheels that measure 12 inches in diameter, the smallest wheel size of any car currently on the market. Additionally, it gets an asymmetrical window layout with vertically mounted rear windows. The Comet EV also receives Extended Horizon connection lights at the back. The EV is offered in five colours and comes with a variety of graphic packs divided into sticker styles and illuminated packs.

Two 10.25-inch screens, one for the infotainment system and the other for the digital instrument cluster, stand out in the Comet EV’s white and grey cabin. While the back seats are split 50:50, the front passenger seat includes a one-touch tumble and fold feature. A rotary drive selector is another element of the Comet.

The Comet EV offers three USB ports, over 55 linked features, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, manual AC settings, keyless entry, controls positioned on the steering wheel, and keyless entry. The Comet EV has dual front airbags, ABS, EBD, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), a reverse camera, and sensors.

MG has given the Comet EV a 17.3kWh battery that has an ARAI-certified range of 230km and is rated IP67 for water and dust resistance. The 3.3kW onboard charger provided by MG requires seven hours to fully charge the battery. The battery was purchased by MG from Tata AutoComp.

A single electric engine with 42 horsepower and 110 Nm of torque powers the Comet’s rear wheels through an automated gearbox. It has dimensions of 2,974mm in length, 1,505mm in width, 1,640mm in height, and a 2,010mm wheelbase. To put its size in perspective, the Comet EV is 556mm longer than the Alto K10, the other small car offered in India.
