Suzuki Swace Estate unveiled
An estate car based on Toyota Corolla Touring Sports, the Suzuki Swace has been revealed. The Swace is the second example of Suzuki to emerge from Toyota’s global strategic alliance.
The Suzuki Swace is essentially a replenished version of the Corolla Touring Sports property of Toyota that is mechanically identical. It is a product of cooperation between the two Japanese manufacturers. Swace follows the Suzuki Across SUV from Toyota RAV4, which was disclosed earlier this year.
The Swace is powered by the 1,8- liter hybrid Corolla powertrain that uses CVT automatic transmission to combine a 96-hp four-cylinder gasoline engine with a 71-hp electric motor. Although performances are at 11.2 sec for the sprint of 0 to 100 kph and top speed is at 180 kph, the overall power generated is unconfirmed (121 ch in the corolla).
As with Corolla, Swace features an emissions-free EV mode with a 99-115g / km CO2 hybrid engine for the WLTP cycle. The Swace has not been given a more powerful 2,0-liter hybrid powertrain to Corolla, it is understood.
The exterior of the Suzuki Swace is very similar to the Toyota Corolla but has its own unique front-end design. This includes an outstanding hexagonal grille on other Suzuki’s such as the Across and a redesigned front pushbutton. For its alloy wheels, Swace is also designed differently.
Inside the Swace dashboard, except the new ‘Suzuki’ badges steering wheel, it remains largely identical with the Corolla. The 8.0-inch corolla touch screen infotainment system standardizes in Swace with Android CarPlay and wireless smartphone charging support. The package also includes the ambient illumination and heated front seats. The Swace is equipped with 596 liters of luggage.
No, in India, Suzuki Swace is not going to be launched. The Toyota-Suzuki alliance is present in our market, but it’s the opposite – Maruti Suzuki supplies Toyota with vehicles. As the Toyota Glanza, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno will soon be replenished and sold with the compact Vitara Brezza. On 23 September Toyota will rebrand the Brezza as an Urban Cruiser. Previously, the alliance planned to sell Toyota Corollas, which is bad for Maruti in India, but soon thereafter that plan was abolished.
The Suzuki Swace will be built next to the Corolla at the UK Toyota plant and will be sold in the coming months on the European market.
