Toyota Corolla Cross unveiled
Toyota’s line-up features a new crossover, one that wears a very famous tag. It’s named the Toyota Corolla Cross and it’s all set to go on sale in the ASEAN region before it’s rolled out to other markets.
The Corolla Cross, as the name implies, is the crossover version of the Corolla sedan that is common to most of the world. The popular sedan and new crossover are based on Toyota’s TNGA platform, and engines are commonplace too. The Corolla Cross measures 4,460 mm in length, 1,825 mm in width, and 1,620 mm in height which is marginally larger than the C-HR (they are similarly long in wheelbase) which significantly smaller than the RAV4.
The Corolla Cross will be marketed in terms of positioning as a more accessible and functional alternative to the C-HR coupe-like one.
The Corolla Cross looks unmistakably like Toyota, but it’s more like the RAV4. The Corolla Cross is given a prominent black grille as well as sharp headlights and daytime running lights with LED. In addition, black bumpers, side skirts, and tire arches contribute to the charm of ruggedness.
A closer look shows that the Corolla Cross still shares a lot of its body panels and has an almost similar interior to the recently released Suzuki ACross SUV. The cabin features a monotonous theme with a few contrasting parts, as well as a wide touchscreen infotainment system that takes center stage.

The Toyota Corolla Cross with two engine options will go on sale. There is a 1.8-liter 2ZR-FBE petrol engine which makes a torque of 140hp and 175Nm and comes matched to a CVT gearbox. Also on offer will be a gas-electric hybrid with a 98hp, 1.8-liter petrol engine operating in combination with a 72hp, electric motor. The hybrid is being provided with an e-CVT gearbox from Toyota.
Initially, the Toyota Corolla Cross aims at ASEAN and European markets, and there is no news of the concept coming to India from now. Toyota will soon launch the Urban Cross SUV, which will be based on the Maruti Vitara Brezza, for our market, however.
