Honda Africa Twin 850: Are the CRF850L True?

It is speculated that Honda is working on an affordable and smaller Africa Twin with an 850cc engine spec, and can be expected to launch the Honda Africa Twin 850 as early as 2021!

Honda Africa Twin 850

The Honda Africa Twin or the CRF1100L is the main off-road model made by Honda and is considered as one of the best in the world. Then why an 850? Easy, just bridging the gap and following the trend.

Several manufacturers have off-road / touring middle-weight products and the segment has recently exploded into one of the top-selling categories. But European manufacturers currently dominate the category. Therefore, this may be an effort by Honda to take the war to the Europeans.

However, not every off-road enthusiast is a pro and can go on a 1000+cc bike track. Which is it they want? A smaller, more affordable, and more controllable bike that can go fast when needed. The Africa Twin 850 makes sense precisely for this reason. The difference between Honda’s CB500X and the big daddy- Africa Twin 1100 is effectively bridged.

Honda Africa Twin 850

The Honda Africa Twin 850 is to get a twin-cylinder 850cc engine. Power figures could be around 90 BHP, considering there are similar power figures in competition. Riding, which is normal for a Honda, will likely be fast.

We further predict that it will also boast of a comprehensive collection of electronic aids. The package could include mode of riding, traction control, ABS switchable, and even cruise control. Such features may include the older sibling’s TFT instrumentation.

One thing that its elder sibling could get is a road-friendly version, i.e. the Africa Twin 850 Sports.
The sport model will have a different suspension system, road-friendly tires, bigger fuel tank, windscreen adjustable, tubeless tires, etc.

Honda Africa Twin 850

The Honda Africa Twin 850 will be in competition with the BMW F 850 GS, the KTM 790 Adventure, the Triumph Tiger 900, the Ducati Multistrada 950, and even the Yamaha Tenere 750. Lastly, under Honda’s Big Wing project, we expect it to arrive in India too.
