Volkswagen Vento 1.0 TSI: Price and fuel-efficiency

The Volkswagen Vento has launched its BS6 transmission model 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine. Volkswagen has discontinued the previously offered 1.5-litre TDI diesel, 1.6-litre MPI petrol, and 1.2-litre TSI turbo-petrol engines.

The BS6 Vento’s 1.0-litre TSI unit puts out 110hp and 175Nm of torque and offers a 6-speed manual or 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. The BS6 transmission Vento TSI is rated with 17.69kpl while the 1.6 liter BS4-spec Vento was rated with 16.09kpl. The fuel-efficiency figures for the BS6 Vento automatic are expect it to be less than the BS4 Vento 1.2 TSI, rated at 18.19kpl.

The manual BS6 Vento 1.0 TSI ranges from Rs 8.86-11.99 lakh and the automatics range from Rs 12.09-13.29 lakh. Volkswagen has hiked the price of the BS6 Vento but it is not as expensive as the Honda City and Toyota Yaris, but it isn’t as affordable as the Maruti Ciaz. The Ciaz offers the best value-for-money case, as it is the most fuel-efficient and the most affordable in this segment. The new Verna competes well with the Vento in case of pricing and also provides the option of a sporty 1.0-liter turbo-petrol.

The competition in the midsize sedan segment is getting high as Honda is all set to introduce the next-gen City in the coming months. The fifth-gen City will bang with a new 1.5-litre, twin-cam engine and may play well with its rivals in terms of power, torque and fuel-efficiency.

The Volkswagen Vento will hook up against the upcoming Skoda Rapid.
